Bacon Double Header
Bacon everywhere! It goes to show that Roller Derby players love their bacon. Last week we hosted two bouts in our rink. There were delicious homemade bacon edibles, sweets, Jammer Bacon buttons, bacon wallets and our mascot, Skatin’ Bacon!
Two Rivers Roller Derby Vs. Brandywine Roller Girls
This was round two this season of Two Rivers Roller Derby bouting against the Brandywine Roller Girls. This was yet another nail biting, fist pumping, action packed game.
Two Rivers started out smart and strong. Our walls were holding those Brandywine jammers for lengths during the jams. Our jammers were ready to break through the pack right at the start. We were getting lead jammer often and scoring good points. But that’s not to say that Brandywine was not showing us a real challenge. Their smart styles of blocking trapped our jammers and made us have to really fight to break past them. The score was constantly shifting who was in the lead. At the end, both teams were fighting their hardest, trying to push their points to the top. Brandywine won by 21 points. The final score was Brandywine 192 to Two Rivers 171.
Congratulations to Two Rivers MVPs: Jammer, Hard Mandy and Blocker, Queen Guillotine. Hard Mandy was overjoyed to hear that she was awarded MVP in her first bout playing jammer.
“I was completely shocked to hear that I had won! I am beyond proud to be part of Two Rivers. What an amazing team we have! We played like warriors!” –Hard Mandy
And here is a fun fact: Mandy and Queenie are both vegetarians who won MVP at a BACON Double Header. HA!
This has been another tough bout that has brought Two Rivers to a whole new level, as a team. We have challenged ourselves and proved that we are ready for some more competitive derby. Bring it on! We are Two Rivers, so remember our name!
PJRD Hooligans vs. Harm City Havoc
In the second act of the evening we had the men’s teams, PJRD Hooligans vs. Harm City Havoc. This was an extremely physical game. Guys were flying over the track left and right. But they all got up, reset and got back into the game as fast as they fell. These agile players made a fun game to watch and kept us on our “toe stops” with anticipation. Harm City was very smart about watching for the jammer. They would encircle the opposing jammer and either knock him out constantly, or hold him back until he was tired. The Hooligans had some good moves though. Their jammers would juke all over the track making it hard to see which way he was going to go. I could see everyone on the track working hard for their team and fighting for the win! This win goes to Harm City with 278, vs. Hooligans with 70.
Thank you to our referees, non-skating officials, volunteers and of course, our fans! With all of your support we were able to have this bacontastic event. We appreciate every ounce of love and attention you give to Two Rivers Roller Derby, and all derby. Thank you!
Join us for our next home game of the season, The Mighty Blocks! Saturday July 19th at 5:00pm. Two Rivers Roller Derby vs. Red Bank Roller Vixens. See you there for some knocks and blocks!
