Luau Lei-Out Bout
The Killer Coconuts took on the Hawaiian Punch at our FUNdraiser Bout – Luau Lei-Out! For this very special event, we not only had Two Rivers Roller Derby members split into two teams, but skaters from more than 5 other teams jumped in on this fun bouting opportunity. The audience got to control what they wanted to see on the track! This included choosing your jammers, sending skaters to the box, changing rules, making skaters dance, fight, crawl and wear a coconut bra! There was something new every jam!
If you had a dollar – you were able to take control! The audience had the power to request points to be added to each team and could wipe the scoreboard clean! Prices ranged from $1 – $50. After the scoreboard was wiped clean TWICE (a $50 price!), the final score ended up being Killer Coconuts-36 points to Hawaiian Punch-39 points. Not that it even matters, because with over 30 skaters and lots of audience members participating, this unique game was one of the best games of the season!
Winning isn’t always everything in derby, sometimes we just want to play around on our skates! Our Head Coach, Greg, had to wear a coconut bra!
Both teams had to skate backwards the entire jam. Queen Guillotine and Dolly VooDoo held hands while jamming around the track.
Chriss Catastrophe had to fall asleep on the track in mid-game.
Juke of Hearts had to jam playing M.A.D.E. rule set. Ref Felony Arson jamming for the Killer Coconuts.
Ref Stud Muffin had to jam for Hawaiian Punch.
Everyone had to crawl while playing derby, and there was even a fight on the track!
The audience got to vote for the MVPs for Blocker and Jammer! The MVPs voted for Blocker were Yoshi Ground Pound on Hawaiian Punch and Dirty Lemon for the Killer Coconuts! MVPs for Jammer were Dolly VooDoo on Killer Coconuts and Juke of Hearts for Hawaiian Punch!
“The fundraiser bout was a ton of fun! It’s always interesting to play with skaters you normally don’t get to skate with. That and the added element of doing things on skates we never would have thought, that was crazy! The backwards jam was really intense, Ya Know, like Barry Farell. Thank you to all the fans that voted for MVP. I think that will be the most special one!” –Yoshi Ground Pound
Thank you so much to all the visiting skaters, non-skating officials, referees and to our fans! This event was a wonderful success, and so much fun because of your support and participation!
