Two Rivers Open Recruitment
Two Rivers Roller Derby is seeking cool chicks that are interested in kicking butt on skates and joining a fun and exciting sport! Our next open recruitment night is September 20th @ 5:00pm at 345 Illick’s Mill Rd. Bethlehem PA, 18017.
But first, let me tell you a little bit about what it is to join roller derby…
In the derby world we like to call our newest members of the team, Freshmeat. They also go by freshies, newbies or my favorite, skater tots.
Most of our new members have never skated on roller skates in their life. Roller derby interests people because of the excitement, the challenge and the uniqueness of the game. Many come out to try roller derby for the first time and find that they are immediately drawn to it. I have never heard of anyone who has tried roller derby say that they do not like it. In fact, most people who play say it changed their lives for the better.
One of our Freshies, Rachael, was in search of a meeting new people after moving to Easton last year.
“Since I have joined Two Rivers Roller Derby everyone has been nothing but welcoming and encouraging. I have been involved with sports all my life, and there really is nothing like having teammates. It’s been amazing having the other Freshmeat girls to learn from, work out with, and to challenge me. I love that at our practices so many other teammates have been involved and excited to teach us all about skaing/derby. I am excited to keep advancing in my skills. I can’t wait to see what more this endeavor has in store for me. I know a lot of amazing experiences are yet to come. Here’s to finding somewhere I feel like I belong! Thanks girls!”
Another one of our Freshies, Eleni, and a bunch of her friends decided to join the team as a female bonding experience together.
“My decision to join Two Rivers Roller Derby was one of the best I’ve ever made. Throwing myself out of my comfort zone to try something as new and challenging as roller derby has helped me re-discover my confidence and perseverance, both on and off skates. It’s definitely not been easy. But every time I felt like it was too hard and I wanted to give up, my teammates were right there helping me up and cheering me on. I’ve found it incredibly fulfilling to feel like I’m a part of this community that encourages, challenges and inspires me like my teammates do.”
Two Rivers Roller Derby makes an effort to fully support all skill levels of players. We are proud that our Freshmeat have advanced at such a fast rate!
Many of our Freshies from last year have gone on to play in a bout for their first time this season
Kitty Vicious skated in her first bout this August against New Jersey Roller Derby.
“I met my goal of the season by jamming and scoring at least one point. I was able to see how far I’ve come during this bout, but also how incredibly far I have to and want to go with this sport. I’m grateful to be a part of this team that I love this much, and I’m so happy that I got to share the track with this amazing group of girls!”
Two Rivers Roller Derby welcomes all skill levels of skaters, including those who have never even worn skates before, to join our team! We are a rag tag team from all different lifestyles coming together to have fun, make friends and skate!
I can’t wait to see what new recruits we get this season! See you there!
