Two Rivers Roller Derby 2016 Season
As the end to the pre-season quickly approaches, we’re excited to bring to you some of the big changes that have been shaping our 2016 season. It’s been a very busy year so far, with introducing a coaching staff, expanding into two teams, and introducing a new 12-week fresh meat program.
Before we reveal the new teams names and the skaters who will be skating for each, we’d like to introduce our new coaching staff. With the expansion of the league and new WFTDA apprenticeship, some of our most experienced skaters will be joining our head coach, Greg (or High Voltage), to lead the team through a victorious 2016. This coaching staff, including Dirty Lemon, Divine Wreckage, Felony Arson, and Queen Guillotine, have been working hard to train every level of skater from the Two Rivers All Stars, Two Rivers Rapids, and our very own fresh meat.
The Two Rivers All Stars is a charter made up of the team’s most elite skaters who compete at a local and regional level in WFTDA-sanctioned bouts. This will be our very first year having an official charter, a change in the works since the announcement of our acceptance in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s apprentice program last October. They will be skating against teams such as Philly Block Party, Brandywine Brawlers, Lehigh Valley Metal Vixens, and next month Garden State Rollergirls’ Brick City Bruisers.
The Two Rivers Rapids is a roster comprised of both vets and rookies working to develop game strategy and skating skills by bouting against other local teams, such as Pottstown Roller Derby Rockstars and York City Derby Dames. The team has many skaters who have been bouting for one or more seasons, but there also many freshly assessed skaters who have joined the league this past year.
You’ll have a chance to see some of your favorite hard hitters at our season opener on April 23rd at the Garden State Rollergirls and meet some of our freshest bad-asses on May 14 at Pottstown Roller Derby. If you can’t wait until our season opener to show the team your support, join us for 2RRD’s Trivia Night on Wednesday, April 13 at Big Woody’s in Bethlehem. You’ll have a chance to win prizes while showing off how much you know about the Lehigh Valley, roller derby, and everything in between.
Stayed tuned for more upcoming events, such as a night of music and derby featuring several local bands at St. Bernard’s in Bethlehem, our annual FUNdraiser bout where the audience controls the game, and various local upcoming events in the community like Nazareth Bike Fest.
