Two Rivers Roller Derby vs. The Wilkes Barre Scranton Roller Radicals
Two Rivers Roller Derby took on the Roller Radicals on September 12th. This extremely physical game had Two Rivers fighting hard on the track. The Roller Radicals have very challenging Jammers that really tested our walling skills. We had to come together as a team in order to defend our points.
Nature was working against us that night as well. The rain decided to come down during our bout resulting in flash flooding. Our rink started to flood along the edges where the players were sitting! In a quick call to action we set up on the opposite side of the rink to carry on with our bout. And the game went on.
Jammer, Culequita was working so hard to fight through the pack that she took a block to the head 3 minutes before the end of the game. She was sent to the hospital and suffered a minor concussion. Fortunately she was up and about soon after, but was ordered to stay off skates for the next two weeks.
All unforeseen problems aside, this was a very challenging game for Two Rivers, but we did our hardest to work with the strength and skills we have to not make it an easy win for The Roller Radicals. The Roller Radicals won with the final score of 259 to 176.
This was Phlee Bag’s last bout with Two River. She has left our team to travel to France to work as an English Teacher. We wish her the best of luck finding a new team in France!
Yoshi Ground Pound celebrated her last home bout that night. She plans on retiring after the 2015 season.
“Going into our last home bout, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Roller Radicals. Both teams have been training hard and it was a tough game. Getting MVP was surprising and a great end to my derby career, Thank you Roller Radicals for a great bout and thank you Two Rivers for being you!” –Yoshi
Thank you to all our refs, non-skating officials and fans for a great home season! We look forward to entertaining you more next season!
Next up we will have our Bout recap from Maryland, as we recently headed south to take on the Mason-Dixon Roller Vixens!
